Good controller, but dies in 2 years or less Aug 25, 2008 I had 2 of these controllers for just under 2 years and this past weekend, both of them went dead.... not dead as in plug them in to charge them, but dead as in that's it, they are nothing more than paper weights at this point. So of course since the 1 year warranty was up, I had to replace them. It would be nice if they would make them a little more durable and extend the battery life, or at least sell replacement batteries for like $15 or so. Is that so much to ask Sony???
Great product Aug 19, 2008 I love this product very much, it has a lot of major improvements from the PS2 controllers, first of all its a lot more LIGHTWEIGHT but its still very DURABLE. Second, a lot of PS2 owners may have noticed in shooter games (where the R2 and L2 buttons are used a lot) that the R2 and L2 buttons will get JAMMED under the body of the controller. Well that problem is fixed now with the new HINGED R2 and L2 buttons. I also love the fact that you can PLAY and CHARGE your controller at the same time, instead of waiting for battery life to run out in the middle of a game. [...]
They truly feel cheap Aug 01, 2008 I enjoy my PS3 from time to time. I don't have any games but I download demos on occasion to give games a try. I loved the PS2 controllers, they were the same size just about... but they were heavier and felt soooooo much better in your hands. I'm sorry I'm an adult with bigger hands than a kid. I don't like how light the controllers are. The other huge letdown was the L2 and R2 buttons that are hinged at the top instead of being regular push-in buttons. Why they decided to do that I don't know, because it feels awful pressing into them. What was wrong with the old school controllers that had normal r2 l2 buttons?? I loathe it when companies change things that are perfectly fine the way they are. I've also had the controller un-sync during a game. Not like the battery was low, but the bluetooth hiccuped for a second and had to reassign the controller. It only happens in a split second, but ummm when you're playing a racing game and your controller freezes I've seen my car vere to the left for an extra second causing me to crash OR the controls actually reversed once lol. so instead of going left like I wanted to I vered right. I actually returned the game rental and rented on the 360 instead and the game played so much better.
Pros:
Long battery life
Quick recharge time
they look like the classic PS2 controllers
Cons:
No rumble feature
Too light causing it to feel cheap
loses bluetooth connection from time to time
the R2 L2 hinged buttons are a terrible idea.
In short, I am considering buying the new dualshock controller because it's a few ounces heavier. and I have a logitech USB controller which is great but it doesn't work with some games, and it's usb so it doesn't turn the ps3 on or off :(
I'm trying to sell my normal controllers lol(yeah i bought the console with an extra controller) if you like heavier controllers(xbox orig, 360, ps2, dreamcast) you will not like the feel of this controller.
Sony Strikes With Another Great Gaming Combo Jul 27, 2008 This product has many good features. This is a great controller with its motion sensing, light weight, potrability, and wireless capability. What can't this controller do? You can turn on or shut down your PS3, turn off the controller, start and play videos, games music, download stuff, browse the web, and even more with its wireless capability by just moveing your fingers. The battery lasts at least six hours and it is a breeze to charge. [If you are a hardcore gamer and play a lot then I would recommend having a spare controller.]
Now lets look at the downsides to this product. This is practically copying the X-box 360 controller with the ''triggers'' for L2 and R2 and it also copys the ''X-box button.'' It is quite expensive too! It does not have the rumble vibration feature either. [That does not affect me because I never used it.] The worst part to this product is that you have to separately buy the USB-to-Mini USB cable to charge it. [This does not affect me either because I have tons from my other Sony products.]
Overall this is a great product if you do not use it tons and you are sure to be satisfied by its incredible performance.
